Chronicles of Narnia Great Fun! By Kathryn E. Eriksen My daughter and I braved the crowds on opening day to see the latest Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian movie. And we were not disappointed.
Although the plot picked up where the first movie (Chornicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) left off, Prince Caspian took off in different direction. The four children (Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy) know that they were the ancient Kings and Queens of Narnia, so their starting point is much different than the first movie. The challenge they face is not a place, but a person. Prince Caspian is well played by Ben Barnes. We don’t know anything about his parents or his childhood, because he is first introduced as an adult who seems aimless. But the call of nobility awakens him to his own strength and power. Narnia (the magical kingdom that was destroyed by Prince Caspian’s ancestors) is in need of a leader and Prince Caspian is the unlikely hero. The conflicts that develop between Prince Caspian and Peter as to who should lead the Narnians is a basic struggle of power and ego. Themes of forgiveness, choices and consequences play with the characters in subtle ways. The movie draws you into the world of Narnia, and makes you want to stay. The special effects are wonderful, but the action can sometimes be too intense for young children. The war scenes are fairly graphic with the violence notched more for an audience older than 7 or 8 years old. At the start of the summer movie season, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is a great choice! WATCH MOVIE Trailer
