If you have lived in this area for any length of time, you have probably heard about the “Munster Mansion.” Designed and built by Chuck and Sandra McKee, the 5,825 square foot house is an exact replica of the façade and set used during the filming
The idea for the home came to the McKees after they sold their Victorian house on Main Street in Waxahachie. They wanted a new house that was more energy efficient and required less upkeep, but they did not want it to LOOK like a new house. So Sandra decided to model their new home after the Victorian house used in “The Munsters,” one of her favorite television shows growing up.
She researched the show and watched every episode, taking notes of each room’s decorations. Then she began the long,

arduous task of finding replicas. Because a Hollywood set was used during the filming of the 70 episodes, there were no blueprints available. After analyzing the sets to determine the correct dimensions, Chuck and Sandra drew up the plans themselves.
Each room of the home is modeled after one of the rooms in the show – except for the basement. As you walk into the foyer, for example, a long, impressive staircase greets you. Does Spot live under the staircase, like he did in the show? Yes! There is also a rotating suit of armor located at the top of the stairs, just like in the show.
In the past, the McKees have hosted a two-day costume party on Halloween and allowed tours of the home. The money raised was donated to the Parkland Burn Center. But they are taking a break this year, so they can sit back and relax on Hallow’s Eve.
To drive by the house, take FM 813 towards Rockett. The home will be on your left. For more information, please visit www.munstermansion.com to learn more about this unique home. Photographs are posted of past parties, and some of the celebrities who have attended.
