The Ellis County Art Association and Art Center sponsored the 2008 Paint Out, which celebrates the art, history and architecture of Waxahachie as interpreted by some of Texas’ finest landscape artists. The final Paint Out was held on June 6 in Downtown Waxahachie. The paintings are for sale at the Chautauqua Auditorium on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8th, during the 40th Annual Gingerbread Trail Tour of Homes. I had the opportunity to visit the Courthouse during the Paint Out. Although the weather was not cooperating (windy, cloudy conditions), all of the artists I spoke to were having a great time. Each artist was acutely aware of the clock ticking, because they had to finish their painting in 90 minutes or less. Several times, I became a clock keeper, as I fielded the “What time is it?” question. Waxahachie Journal supports the local arts scene and hopes that everyone will take the time to go by Getzendaner Park to see these wonderful paintings of our town.
