The joyous activities of the holidays have stilled and now we are faced with taking down the Christmas decorations. Time to reflect on the year and to set our goals for 2009.
I don’t know about you, but I spent this past year feeling like I was riding a tidal wave of change. Of course, the two events that eclipsed everything and affected everyone were the financial crisis and the Presidential election. But smaller changes occurred as well.
Higher gas prices curtailed long trips. I don’t know about you, but we stayed closer to home this summer. We became more efficient in our planning, and combined several errands into one trip. Carpools were formed to economize travel and the number of folks who rode on public transportation skyrocketed.
There was a general sense of unity, because we all suffered the same plight. Exorbitant gas prices hit everyone’s wallet, and pained expressions at the pump were commonplace. Our heedless disregard for gas usage when it was inexpensive was thrown out the window. And a new perspective was born.

Along with the constricted economy, people looked inward to discover the key to life. Books such as “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle sat on the bestseller list for months. Maybe it was the time spent at home (instead of in the car), but more people became interested in spiritual matters than ever before.
And that is the good news in this dark economic climate.
What does 2009 hold for all of us? More changes to be sure, with a newly elected President facing massive, in-grained challenges. But we can use these changes as a springboard for growth in our personal life.
Discover your spiritual side and regain a higher perspective. Perhaps it is time for a career change, or a different focus. As Jim Rohn, the great business philosopher is fond of saying, “Success is not to be pursued. It is to be attracted by the person we become.”
Walk through your inner gateway and discover a new world within.
Look online and see what is available from the Positive Psychology sector (this used to be called “self-improvement”). One course that I have personally recommend is the latest from Bob Proctor, called “The 11 Forgotten Laws.” You can read more about it by going to
www.MiracleIncome.com .
Watch the movie, “The Secret” and discover a new perspective. If you have not already seen this movie, please take a moment and visit, www.thesecret.tv to watch it online, or order your own copy. It will introduce you to a different way of thinking about yourself, your life and your world. And it may lead you on a wonderful journey of self-growth, renewal and discovery.
As Albert Schweitzer once said, “As soon as man does not take his existence for granted, but beholds it as something unfathomably mysterious, thought begins.”
Change is always present, swirling around us like a dust devil on the flat, open expanse of the Texas Panhandle. But instead of resisting the winds of change by standing rigid and firm, become pliable and let it push you forward. Embrace change and you may find yourself on a different path, growing into the person you were meant to be.
