A Passion for Plants By Mary A. Flowers
Having a passion in life and being able to share that passion with others is a wonderful thing. "One of my greatest joys is being able to help others know and appreciate all the wonderful things that grow on God's earth," she says, when trying to explain her love affair with plants.
"I have been involved with plants and landscaping most of my life and I love it," Bell says. Bell uses her plant knowledge everyday in her business, Urban Farmers, www.urban-farmers.com as she and husband, James Bell, create the many beautifully landscaped yards, patios, and ponds throughout the area.
Being an Ellis County Master Gardener is also the perfect avenue for Bell to pass on her knowledge about container gardening, tree trimming, and much, much more. "Being a Master Gardener is as much about plant education as it is about plant knowledge. Sure Master Gardeners have lots of expertise but a large part of the function of Master Gardeners is teaching others," says Bell.
Master Gardeners can be seen throughout the county at various venues such as Children's Gardening Workshops to introduce children to gardening; educational workshops and speaking engagements; the Downtown Waxahachie Farmers Market every Saturday from May through October; as well as the March Lawn and Garden Expo at the Waxahachie Civic Center.
The Master Gardener Association program is administered through the County Extension Office. They may be contacted at 972-825-5175 for plant questions and more information about becoming a Master Gardener. Their web site is at www.ecmga.com.
