2008 Oktoberfest a Huge Success! PDF Print E-mail

oktBy Kathryn E. Eriksen

Where can you spend the entire day at a family event, with lots of kids games, great entertainment, scrumptious food and great raffle prizes – all for free? Nowhere else by St. Joseph’s Oktoberfest!

This year was bigger and better than ever. More vendor booths displayed a wider variety of items – from wall size paintings to hand-made jewelry. The Ellis Hill Association of Realtors made sure that people registered to vote. The kids’ games had all the old favorites, such as Ms. Volker in the Sponge Bob Booth. The Saber Tooth Tiger slide at the entrance to the Expo building was a new and exciting touch.

The entertainment was constant throughout the day. Mr. Rommell warmed up the crowd with his German accordion music. Mr. Rock ‘N Roll provided another great year of laughs – especially when he followed the women around while singing, “Put on Your Dancing Shoes.” He later returned as Elvis, and there was a whole lot of shaking going on!

The dancers from Ms. Tamie’s Dance Studio were great. Several groups of dancers enjoyed the limelight and showed off their moves in front of a large and supportive crowd.

But the highlight of the afternoon was the Kid’s Karaoke Contest. Fifteen contestants sang their heart out before a cheering crowd. Songs from Taylor Swift were the most popular (“Our Song,” “Should Have Said No,” and “Picture to Burn”). The three judges took their time to make sure that the right contestants were chosen for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. Waxahachie Journal congratulates all the winners, as well as the contestants who had the confidence to stand up and sing in front of hundreds of people!

Waxahachie Journal had a booth set up in the vendor area. We offered free digital photos, which will be posted on the site this week. If you came by our booth and had your picture taken, please let us know by email if you want to receive the jpeg of that photo. Thank you for stopping by and visiting with us!

Well done to all the countless volunteers who worked so tirelessly to make the 2008 Oktoberfest such a grand success!
