My little family was in the throes of the summer doldrums; it was too hot outside to enjoy the pool, the cicadas’ drone was slowly getting on our nerves, and we did not have the time to fly or drive somewhere cool before school started. What were we to do? The answer: spend the weekend at the Gaylord Texan Resort! The Gaylord Texan is a world-class resort that sits only 50 miles from Waxahachie. But spend a weekend there, and you will feel as if you had a much longer break from the summer heat. It is geared towards families and there is almost non-stop entertainment – whether it is a juggler throwing bowling pins into the air or a cowboy practicing his lasso techniques – the Gaylord goes out of its way to make you feel that you are on vacation! The Resort sits on the shoreline of Lake Grapevine – from our corner hotel room, we had a great view of the marina and lake. It is easy to find, because of convenient signs that are well placed on all of the possible routes from the nearby highways. And the saying, “You can’t miss it!” certainly applies to this sprawling building surrounded by rolling pastureland. When you first arrive, you have to decide if you are going to self-park ($10.00), or valet-park ($20.00). Since we were not going out again until we checked-out the next day, we had the valet park our car. It made it much easier to walk into the hotel lobby, with the bellhop in tow, pushing the luggage cart. After all, we were on vacation!
